To do most things on your HoloLens, you have to be connected to a network. This includes using the IMAJION app. Connecting it to a network is similar to connecting a Windows 10 Desktop or Mobile device to a Wi-Fi network.
Connecting on First Startup #
When starting up your HoloLens for the first time, you’ll be guided through connecting to your Wi-Fi network. If you have trouble connecting to Wi-Fi during setup, make sure that your network is either an open, password-protected network or a captive portal network. Also, confirm that the network doesn’t require you to use a certificate to connect. After setup, you can connect to other types of Wi-Fi networks.
Connecting to Wi-Fi after Setup #
To connect to Wi-Fi after setup, start by turning on your HoloLens 2 and do the following:
- Open the start menu by using the Start Gesture (looking and tapping your wrist)
- Find the network setting icon at the top-left (to the left of the speech icon). Tap this
- Locate your network, then select Connect
- If your network has a password, you’ll be prompted to input this
After a moment you should see yourself connected to the network. If you open your Start menu, you should also see the Wi-Fi network in the top-left section.
Connect Directly via USB-C #
On HoloLens 2 devices, a user may also use a USB-C to Ethernet adapter to connect directly to Wi-Fi to help assist in setting up the device. The device will prioritize your direct connection over your Wi-Fi. Once disconnected, it will attempt to connect to your WiFi again.
Wi-Fi Troubleshooting #
If you run into issues with your Wi-Fi connection, it’s best to contact your IT to check for any blocks that they may be using. If not, feel free to contact us at support@imajion.com for more assistance.
